Why I decided to make this costume: StarDustShadow convinced me to be in a Star Ocean group with her, her sister Kiki_chu, and Asukaisms, a friend from Ohio. I really liked the character design and challenge of doing any armor or sword work.
Construction notes: The stretch fabric used for the top and skirt and gloves and leggings went through a dye bath to attain the proper color. The shoes were painted and accented with foamies for armor. The ankle armor was done by StarDustShadow and is also foamie. The skirt is lined in a red silk, and the trim is a beige hem tape. The obi is 2 layers fabric, 4 layers interfacing with thick foamie ovals in the middle. It was sealed up and then I sewed around the foamies for that popped out effect on the obi. Red ribbon for the tie. The backpiece is a microsuede grey fabric with a black foamie with red felt on top for the top detail, fabric paint for the middle, and a tin cutout for the yellow section. Had some creative license on the back design. I had to go back to the gym for this cosplay, and I’m glad I did. I hope to continue doing so as I lost about 10 lbs for this outfit. The top is just that. Nothing too special there. The armor on the right hand is heated and molded plastic over a pipe. This was a real time-consuming event, molding the plastic. Not cute and a two-person job. The other arm has layered foamies for the top armor with clear elastic straps. (Very unreliable) The forearm piece is molded plastic with foamies as the bottom section. The hand armor is plastic, the fingers foamies. The shoulder armor was rushed a few hours before we left for the con, and are therefore in need of some help, but for the time constraint I’d say they came out pretty well. Collar is molded plastic with chains. Wig was white and sharpie dyed. Extensions are vinyl tubing with white electrical tape wrapped around it and epoxy’ed into the back of the wig. Sword was made of wood as was the sheath. Sculpey at the bottom for detailing and wrapped in red bias tape.
Extra Thoughts: This cosplay would not have been done on time without the help of StarDustShadow. I will probably be replating some of the armor before I wear this outfit again. Active cosplay. Spiral tower music ftw.
